Endo Creative’s first released plugin, Random Content, was just placed on the WordPress plugin repository. The goal was to have a plugin released onto the repository by the end of 2012. And with a couple months to spare, we did it!
Random Content allows you to display random content anywhere on your site using a widget. You can group your content together so you can display multiple widgets with different content.
The content is added via a custom post type, so you have full access to the tinyMCE editor. This allows you to easily add images, text, and links to your random content.
Solving The Need
The plugin solved the problem I had of needing to add content that randomly changed with each page load. I needed it to be more than just an image, and needed to have access to the content editor so the user could add content (images, links, headings) without knowing HTML.
You can view the plugin on the WordPress plugin repository here.

Jeremy! I just saw this for the first time today and I literally got an email from a client last night asking about almost exactly this feature. I’ll probably try out the plugin for them.
I took a moment and browsed through the code. It’s short and sweet 🙂 A couple questions:
1) Have you thought about packaging a shortcode with the plugin? I’ll probably end up writing one for my project.
2) I’m curious about the decision to leave the post type (good decision to use one) public. Was there any particular reason for the choice?
1. I have thought about a shortcode. I’ve had a couple requests for it, so I’ll probably include it in an update soon. Originally I just didn’t need it.
2. I hadn’t really thought about that. I guess it doesn’t need to be public it will always be displayed with a custom query.
Thanks for the feedback Mark!
