Hey mate, I’m having a problems wrapping my head around the permalink thingy…I’d like to keep it simple…is the best way to make the links,
bands.rigidrecords.biz, releases.rigidrecords.biz or rigidrecords.biz/bands, rigidrecords.biz/media, etc…? Whats confusing me is sometimes when saving a page, it saves as, rr.biz/home/rigid123/public_html/.?^* <—-I don't get it.
Also, a couple of small tweaks to the theme I'd like to accomplish but can't figure out how 🙁
One is, when I create a page, how can I have it look more like a web-page then a blog? removing the ability to comment and even the date of the post would be fantastic. I'm using jet-pack and understand it on a basic level, some of it is just down right confusing.

I would go to your Settings->Permalinks, choose Postname, and click Save Changes. This should fix your permalink issue. I wouldn’t recommend using subdomains (i.e. releases.rigidrecords.biz) because you’ll have to have a new WP installation for each one.
When editing a page, click on “Screen Options” in the top right corner. Make sure Discussion is checked. Then, scroll down the page to the Discussion meta box and uncheck Allow Comments. That will remove comments from your pages.
To remove the “Comments are Closed” dialog, you will need to edit your page.php file.
HI! I am on my own as far as design because we are hosted through godaddy. We have a page that is “our experts” and I need to replace a couple of the photos. How do I get the photo on dashboard and how do I change it out?? Thanks so much!!!

Me and a group created a wordpress wesite theme, the only issue is the navigation does not work on an iPad or iPhone device which we would like it to.
If you look at it on an iPad/iPhone you will see that you have to hold your finger over the menu to expand it, but you cant click a sub menu because it does not stay expanded.

Um I am fairly sure that its with CSS as I dont think any javascipt was used.
I didnt have much to do with the code, but yeah im pretty sure its CSS.
The photos in the “features” will not display. It should be like a slide show, but it no longer transitions to the next feature either. It was working prior to the addition of a new widget for the sports calender. Just learning WP. Ideas? ~L
The iframe in your sports calendar isn’t being close correctly, so all the code after it on your site isn’t rendering. Try re-adding the iframe code correctly.

Hi David. There is a syntax error in the index.php file of your theme. You’ll need to edit the file to fix the issue. It looks like the error might be on line 39.
Hi – The custom header disappeared from my site. Also, the right sidebar is all screwed up. I did nothing! Now. I’ve been trying to mess with some of the settings with not luck. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.
Try activating a default WordPress theme like Twenty Ten and see if that fixes the layout issue. If it does then you know its a theme issue.
I am creating a website for doctors.
I want to add some custom attributes when filled in the backend should show up in the from end in the post.
It should be something like custom field in the edit section, only thing i have to insert text which shows up in front end.

That looks to be a custom functionality built for the theme, not an out of the box plugin. The biggest question is, what are you trying to do? Hide content, or collect user emails?

It appears that our site was hacked. Links on the site now go to inappropriate web sites. Our IT has pulled down the site for now. Is there any way to track back to see who might have done it? We are a school… wondering if it might be a kiddo…
You could check the log in history if you have a plugin installed that tracks that information, like this one.
I am setting up a WP site to sell mp3’s and offer a 15 second sample of each mp3. I have set up a table with TablePress and WP estore. I have 400 mp3’s. After approx 75 entries in the table (2 jpg images, 1 sample, title, artist and mp3 for sale per line) everything glitched. Now I get the spinning wheel and most of the jpgs etc are unavailable. The page is not public because it is so messy. Can you suggest anything? Thank you in advance. peace.
Instead of one big table, you could create multiple ones and then use the nextpage functionality of WordPress to create pagination.

I am making a new site and can not seem to get the parent to be the only one to show up on my home page. Ex: I have US flag (parent) all 3 children (US nylon, US poly US indoor) all are on home page. How do I fix that?

I have recently taken over a wordpress project and the person who built the framework has entered a lot of erroneous code, I believe. Anyway, I have been tasked with figuring out a few things and I need help.
Firstly, the website constantly hangs up and declares “Fatal Error: Maximum Execution Time Exceeded \\Filepath\SuchAndSuch.” Would a fresh install of WordPress make these errors go away?
Also when I go to install a plugin/theme it will act as if the install is happening, but once the page refreshes to tell me the install was succesful, I get the page hanging up and looking like this: http://awesomescreenshot.com/07b1fwmd32 Alternatively if I upload the unzipped file via FTP, everytime I go to activate the plugin etc. it gives me a Fatal Error on the WordPress backend.
I am under a fairly tight deadline to sort this out and we are also looking to implement a mobile theme and these issues are prohibiting us from accomplishing the project.
Any help and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I’m having some serious issues with trying to get my posts in the site I am developing at the moment to display in grids (columns and rows).

Your form has an inline style height attribute set on it. You need to either remove that height attribute, or change it to a height that allows the entire form to be displayed.

I am SO glad to find you! I am such a newbie at this! I’ve been working like a month trying to get my website for my new jewelry business up and going! I’ve spent so much time, I can’t even make the jewelry!
So here’s today’s problem, I have a gallery set up with thumbnails of the earrings I have for sale. They show they are attached to one of my pages with the same size pic. on it, but when you actually click on the thumbnail, it takes you to a blank page with the thumbnail up in the corner. What I want to happen is when you click for it to take you to a larger pic of the earrings on my one of my pages, with the description and price under it. I have tried pasting the link of the larger pic in the permalink spot but it then takes me to an error page. I’m so confused and frustrated!!! I’m just ready to get this thing operational!

It sounds like you have WordPress installed in a subdirectory. Follow the instructions here entitled ‘Using a pre-existing subdirectory install’.

Hope you can help me, when I login to my wordpress, I receive an error code ” Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/thebwcom/public_html/wp-admin/custom-header.php on line 329″
on a white blank screen. With also wont let me login to the wordpress at all. Im assuming that when I changed the colors on the theme, it messed something up. It was appearing & working fine a few days ago.

Hi, I have my WP uploaded on godaddy.com. I’m using Flexx theme 4.5.0.
My URL is pcbuyzone.com. However, when I’m writing and setting up my Home page, the permalink keeps making it pcbuyzone.com/home. If I Edit the permalink by backing out Home, it automatically enters a number, IE: pcbuyzone.com/2-29.
So the problem is pcbyzone.com comes up “Not Found”. Earlier I had a Home button (when I set up the page but took back off to fix issue), but only then would my Home page come up – pcbuyzone.com/home. How do I make so that my original url simply brings up my home or front page as normal?

It looks like Photo Gallery WordPress Plugin is throwing a js error. Try deactivating that plugin and see if it fixes it.

If the other social icons are in a widget, you could try adding the Instagram image/link there.

i am creating a church site for free, i am having many issues, I’m using a Zion child theme, right now heres the issue, i made a css menu to put on a few pages, however when i put it in it throughs the page format out of wack, i was able to use <p to solve one issue with text but i have the same issues with sliders not formating correctly. i cant seem to set x and y coordinates per page. i know im a nub but usually after a couple days i fugure it out, not the case here, http://praisechapelyc.com/?page_id=72 here it took me a long time just to get the slider across from the menu, but when i do it deactivates the menu, I tried to figure out how to create a page template that included the menu and left the rest of the page for posting but failed so far. thanks for any help you can give. if you need access please let me know i'll supply it..

Maybe you can help me with something. I have been building a new WP website. I edited the css and header loads of time with no issues.
Today I edited the header adding a mobile redirect script and suddenly I can no longer edit my style.css or header.php.
Instead the edit button has been replaced with;
“You do not have sufficient permissions to edit templates for this site”.
Permissions haven’t been altered and are still 644.
Has me baffled! I can still edit from my Plesk control panel but don’t want to have to go to the server every time to do this.

The message I got was in fact “You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.” not “You do not have sufficient permissions to edit templates for this site”. The latter was some code I found in the theme editor. Looking at this issue too long!!
I hope you can help me solve.
I would recommend making your changes in a text editor and uploading them via FTP. If you make a mistake in your PHP code you could lose access to your site.
Thanks Jeremy. The code I inserted was fine. I’m thinking it’s a WP bug when you alter code in the admin side rather than going through a FTP or directly on server. I might just re-install a new WP and download and re-upload my child theme to the new installation. I thought it might have been something that there was a fix for. I had customized the header too so I will need to redo that as well. It’s just a pain to have to go back and start over again. I appreciate your advice.
I am looking for some help. I am using Jaida-Wordpress Theme which uses three colum layout with two sidebars. Single posts have option to move Sidebars or create a post without sidebars. The header image looks to be pixelated even at full size. You would need create a better quality image using a graphics program like Photoshop and then import that higher quality graphic into your header.
I’m not sure I can do this by myself. It might be coding. If you go to my site, in the right sidebar under META, is a bunch of stuff. I don’t know where that is or how to get it out. Also I want to put a short bio in there. And third – how do I put in my logo at the top? It’s just typing the company name for now. If it’s like 30 minutes, can i pay you to do it?

Hi Judi. This is usually a widget area in WordPress. If you go to Appearance->Widgets in your WordPress dashboard you will be able to drag and drop different widgets into the area. You could use a text widget to add a bio to your sidebar. You can also ready up on WordPress Widgets on the codex.

Why do i have posts with you tube videos that play and work, but the media file for that video cannot be located in the library only the image results, therefore not allowing me to add my desired media file to a video playlist. The URL for the image (http://unitedfellowshipwc.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/header_pic.jpg) is saying that the image can’t be found. I would make sure the image is named correctly, and in the correct folder on your server.

It depends on the theme you are using. It looks like you are using Canvas, which should have a theme options panel that will let you upload a logo.

I developed a website with wordpress.
I now want to test this site on a friends server through filezilla , but I cant locate the exact folder that contains my work in the wordpress folder.
I have to upload the files to the server but am lost. All because I cant locate the folder that contains my site.

WordPress is made of up two separate things, the site files and the database. To move the site to another server you will need to copy your WordPress installation to the new server, as well as export your current database and import it to the new server. You can learn more on the WordPress codex.

Hi. At the end of the rope here with attempts.. Twenty fourteen theme – image width will not change no matter what I update, although all the other content (text, etc) will change when I change the width in editor. Settings are fine on the image before I upload.

This is about embedding images (with or without alt tags) into WP posts.

On that page, several pictures and videos have been embedded into test posts (some after many attempts).
I have not been able to figure out how they managed to do it, despite spending a considerable time experimenting with different HTML codes and trying out suggestions from YouTube and many other places.
For example, say I want to embed a picture of Sam Naz into a post:

If you click the Add Media button above the content editor, you can upload photos and it will generate the code for you automatically.

The links on the homepage do not work. When you select a link it directs you back to the home page and not the page linked.
