I flew into Chicago yesterday to attend WordCamp Chicago this Saturday and Sunday. I attended the Seattle WordCamp back in 2011, and had a great time learning and meeting other WordPress enthusiasts. I’m really looking forward to attending another WordCamp.
Here’s what I’m most excited about:
1. Presentations
The presentation list looks awesome at WordCamp Chicago. There are three tracks to choose from, and each one focuses on specific areas WordPress: designers/entrepreneurs, beginning developers, and interactive talks.
I love learning other how other people use WordPress. I always pick up new tricks and tips from discovering how other people solve problems. I’ve started building customized plugins for my clients, so I’m really interested in the Plugin Development Practices presentation. Also, as a business owner, Freelance WordPress Lessons Learned looks like it will be full of great advice.
2. Meet New People
WordCamps are a great place to meet new people. I don’t personally know any one else who will be attending the event, so there is plenty of opportunity for networking with other WordPress enthusiasts. I’ve traveled all the way from Fort Collins, CO, and I’m sure there are others who have traveled from around the country as well. Plus, there are all the people involved in the local Chicago WordPress community.
3. Be Inspired
Its hard not to be inspired at a WordCamp. After spending two days in a building full of other enthusiastic WordPress users, I know I’ll come away ready to tackle any WP challenge that comes my way. I hope to learn about new resources, new techniques, and new workflows that I can take back with me to Colorado. Also, as the organizer of the Fort Collins WordPress Meetup, I’m sure I’ll have plenty to share with our members at the next meetup.
If you will be attending the Chicago WordCamp I’d love to meet you. You can find me on twitter at @greenhornet79. I’ll also be working in coffee shops all over downtown Chicago this week. If you want to get together and do some coworking just message me!
